Azeez Fashola popular known as  Naira Marley is considered to be the best newcomer in the industry after Wizkid. He worked up the charts and later earned the name, Marlian from his fans. He is a hard worker who is considered to have won the year 2019 by continuously releasing smash hit singles and topping different musical channels on television and radio. Naira Marley was born in Agege, Lagos State in Nigeria. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Fashola.

He was named Azeez Fashola at birth but his stage name soon took over. At the age of 11, he moved to Peckham, South London, England

 Naira Marley has kept his personal life private and not much is not about his sibling, but it is believed that he was born in a family where he has many brothers and sisters.

Naira Marley Education

Niara Marley studied at Porlock Hall before attending Walworth School in the UK, where he obtained his General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).

 

Naira Marley furthered his studies at Peckham Academy and graduated with a distinction for Business. He continued his studies and enrolled for business law at Crossways College now known as the Christ the King Sixth Form College.

Naira Marley is a private person who does not share anything publicly about his love life but he has shared that he has two wives who are Americans. 

 

Naira Marley Career

 Naira Marley sings in English, Pidgin and Yoruba. His music is a blend of Afrobeats and hip-hop. He came up with his stage name through his admiration of the Jamaican legend, Bob Marley and he also started growing his locks as his idol, Bob Marley had.

 

Naira Marley started his career in 2014. He used to dream of becoming an MC and a voice-over artist until he was dared by his friends to take a shot at singing and rapping.

He released his debut single Marry Juana which was co-produced by Max Twigz. This followed by his debut Extended Play (EP) Gotta Dance which was released in 2015.

Naira Marley continued his musical journey and his fan base started growing globally. In December 2017, he collaborated with the legendary Olamide and released Issa Goal it was co-produced by Lil Kesh and the song became the theme song for the Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He continued his journey and owned 2018 when he released the remix of "Issa Goal" which was released on the 16th of June in 2018. He featured the vocals of Olamide, Lil Kesh, Falz, Simi and Slimcase. Concluding 2018, Naira Marley teamed up with the Afrobeat newcomer, Zlatan and released a song Am I A Yahoo Boy.

Naira Marley released a smash hit, Soapy, that topped charts for over 10 weeks in the country. This music video was themed with a jail setting because he released the song after he was released from jail.

 

    Later in December 2019, Naira Marley released his second Extended Play Lord of Lamba. He managed to infuse Afrobeats and Hip-Hop. It consisted of six tracks and featured the likes of CBlvck, Young John, and Mayorkun. It was produced by Killertunes, Rexxie, and Studio Magic.

 

As one who's always making money moves in the industry, Naira Marley topped Billboard's latest ranking of the top five great Nigerian artists.

Naira Marley EFCC Arrest

 Naira Marley was caught up in a scandal with The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and was arrested alongside his friend Zlatan, Tiamiu Kayode, Adewunmi Moses and Abubakar Musa on the 10th of May in 2019.

The arrest was made a day after Naira Marley released the video for his controversial single "Am I A Yahoo Boy". 

His friends were released three days after their arrest, but Naira Marley remained in custody due to overwhelming evidence against him.

In May 2019, Naira Marley was charged by the EFCC with 11 counts of fraud. He later appeared before the Federal High Court and pleaded "not guilty" and he had his bail hearing on the 30th of May in 2019. 

Naira Marley was granted bail on the 14th of June in 2019 and was set to be released on a ₦2,000,000 bail.

Naira Marley released the single "4 Nights In Ekohtiebo" while still in prison. In it, he talks about his industry friends, foes, and other people who have admired him.

In 2018, Naira Marley saw an opportunity following the exponential growth of his fan base and he started a cultural event, Marlian Fest - which is an annual festival that takes place in Lagos and he performs for his fans.

During the 2019 Marlian Fest, Naira Marley announced the launch of his record label, Marlian Records and revealed that they signed the likes of CBlvck, Zinoleesky, MohBad, and Fabian Blu as its first artists.
